Chronology of cameras Central Camera Co
Centaur is the name given by Central Camera to a series of cameras sold by them. According to illustrations in the catalogs, these cameras are Wirgin Auta models. Just like the original model, the Centaur is available in several combinations of lenses and shutters.
From Central Camera Co's website :
Albert Flesch leaves his native Hungary to come alone to Chicago at the age of 13. Albert carries not only the hopes of his family but also a small red agenda during his journey. In it, he talks about buying a new winter coat and visiting his relatives on the day of his departure. He describes life aboard the ship and his arrival in Chicago, where he comes to live with his uncle.
Years later, Albert Flesch begins his career in the photography department of Siegel-Cooper, one of the largest downtown stores at that time. Through this introduction to photography, he opens Central Camera, a store, at 31 E Adams Street in 1899. The year of the founding of Central Camera marks the sixtieth anniversary of the invention of photography. Albert Flesch offers, starting in 1900, an innovative development service and also introduces a mail-order catalog.
Due to its growth, Central Camera relocates in 1929 to its current address.
